    1. Hi my work permit have been cancelled after I resigned, and I applied for a residence permit for a touristic purpose to avoid any administrative penalty, and I am still waiting for the appointment date. but a few days later I have received a new job offer and the future company is ready to apply for a work permit after I receive my new residence permit. I would like to ask if I should add my future work contract or any other documents to my application documents for a residence permit?.

Also, I need information, on the overstaying period is it calculated from the date of Work permit cancellation or from the Insurance cancellation date?

      Thank you for your help.

      1. Hello,

Your new employer may apply for new work permit application after you get your residence permit. As the purpose of current application is tourist one, that is why there is no need to add any work contract to your application file. The overstaying period should be calculated from the cancellation date of your work permit card.

        Thank you,

    2. HI dear sir/madam
I am a medical doctor from Iran .
I would like know what is the equivalency diploma?
and if I can have a Turkish company instead of Turkish employer?
      regards

      1. Hello,

This is a letter certifying that your Bachelour Diploma is equal to a Turkish Bachelour Diploma. The process should be done through Council of Higher Education. In regards of work permit process, the application could be done by Turkish company.

    3. Hello. I would like to renew or extend my residence permit and I am wondering if it will effect my ability to later apply for a work permit for any reason. Also will I be able to apply for more than two residence permits consecutively?

      1. Hello,

You can apply for extension of your residence permit in Turkey, it won’t effect on future work permit application.

    4. Hi,
I overstayed and i have been banned for 5 years, the people at embassy asked me to find an office or a lawyer in Turkey to pay the fine and fix the ban..

      Can you help on that?

    5. Hello I’m looking to renew my temporary residence permit. I am wondering if it will effect my ability to later apply for a work permit. Also is it possible to renew a residence permit more than once?

    6. Hi. Can you please tell me if I’d be eligible for a 1 year visa if I stay in a hotel in Istanbul? Does the 1000usd for every month have to be in a Turkish bank account?

      1. Hi,
The competent institution that evaluates and decides on this situation is the migration administration. Currently, the Immigration Administration does not take kindly to foreigners staying in hotels, we do not recommend staying in hotels, it will be healthier to make a lease agreement. It is enough to have$ 500 in your account for each month.

    7. Hello, my girlfriend have right to stay in Turkey 30 days, if she stay 35 days, it would be big problem when we leaving the country? How much we would pay for this as a fine?

Or can we take any permission from foreigner offices for staying else 5-6 days more?

      1. Hello,
Foreigners who overstay in Turkey for less than 10 days may be granted a small fine, however usually are not directly granted entry ban. Although, if for any reason your girlfriend refuses to pay a fine if applies, she might be banned to reenter Turkey for up to five years. You can read more about amount of fines in article below:
The consequences of overstaying in Turkey
Please, be informed that final decision on the amount of fine will be taken by customs at the airport and it can differ from official amounts.

      1. Hello,
In order to obtain work permit, first you need to find a job in Turkey and your future employer must apply for your work permit. Foreigners can not apply for work permit in their own name or without having a job in Turkey. Application for foreigner who has residence permit valid in total for at least 6 months can be done within Turkey. For foreigners who are not residence permit holders, application must be done via Turkish Consulate in their home country.

    8. Hello, my husband is British and he entered Turkey with his car and 3 days after the arrival the lock downs are started. The country he came had his borders shut until 4th of June 2021. He lost his business and we had no income and my father had to support us and our 3 children. Now he wants to leave and they are asking for huge amount of fine for his ca. I believe there should be some sort of execptions because the reason for all was the covid19. Please I have contacted the Turkish government, British embassy and didn’t get any assistance, guidance or help. He would like to leave but he can’t because he cant afford to pay the fine. Is there any ways out of this situation. My number is 0531 614 12 xx. Thank you in advance.

    9. Hello,
I am the general manager / genel müdür of a liaison office / irtibat bürosu. In the first year, as the general manager and the only foreigner in the company I was able to obtain my working permit without any problem for a duration of one year. Will the condition of 200.000 USD cash flow be applied, when I apply for the extension of my working permit next year or does it only apply for further foreign employees? I called the working ministry via 170 but they were not able to confirm or deny this.

Thank you very much in advance!

      1. Hello,
In order to extend your work permit card a year later, your company should fulfill the criteria of 200.000 USD cash flow to Turkey within a year from the date of getting initial work permit.

    10. Hello,
My name is Tom (french), I opened a LLC restaurant in turkey with another french. We both have tourist ikamet. We don’t actually work in the company. For ruhsat issues, we might need help for work permit :

      • Does foreign director of LLC need a Calisma Izne if he leaves in turkey?
      • Does the foreign shareholder of LLC need a Calisma Izne if he leaves in turkey?
      • If yes, wan we have work permit if we have one turkish employee and 100 000TL capital ?
      • Is it possible in LLC that there is only one director and this director is not a shareholder ?
      1. Hello,
If you are shareholder of the company but you are not actually working in your restaurant you are not obliged to obtain work permit. Otherwise, in order to obtain such a permit there must be 5 Turkish citizens employed in the company per each foreigner who will apply for work permit and the paid capital must be at least 100.000 TL. Company can employ a Turkish citizen as a director, who does not need to be a shareholder at the same time.

If there is a turkish director without shares, and a foreign director with shares (to avoid the turkish director to have all power and somes shares, does the FOREIGN director/shareholder needs work permit ? He can be manager without working at the company

    11. Hi

My name is Ali (Not Original name). I am residing in Turkey from September 2020 with my wife. I am actively searching for a job in Turkey right after I received my TRC in April. My TRC application took 8 months to be delivered.

I have few questions regarding work permit applications in Turkey, where I found there is a chance to get an Independent Work Permit or any type of work permit (as freelancer) for Highly Skilled Professionals in Information and Technology Sector. I am holding Master’s Degree from Ajman University of Science and Technology, along with MCSE, MCSA, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE Collaboration, CCIE Security, CCIE Routing and Switching, A+ Hardware, Network+, Server+, Security+, IBM DBA 7.0, CCNSP and CEH certifications. I have over 11 years of experience in the field in United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada and United States.

My TRC is due to expire in September 2021. I need to know if there is any chance of obtaining any work permit in Turkey? Or I should look for any other country to respect my education and experience.

      Thank you

      1. Dear Ali,
Currently independent work permıt can be only obtained by foreigners who has been residing in Turkey for at least 5 years on basis of work permit. If you find a job your future employer must apply for your work permit. Foreigners can not apply for work permit in their own name or without having a job in Turkey. Application for foreigner who has residence permit valid in total for at least 6 months can be done within Turkey. For foreigners who are not residence permit holders, application must be done via Turkish Consulate in their home country. In near future also Turquoise Card will be granted to highly skilled foreign professionals, however the exact criteria to be eligible for Turquoise Card are not known yet.

    12. Hello.
As an Erasmus student, I lived in Turkey for three months. I did hold a Residence Permit (RP) in this time.
The RP runs out on 30.06.2021. I already left Turkey in May 2021.
After the Residence Permit expires, I would like to re-enter Turkey for tourist purposes in July 2021.

Now I am wondering if there is anything I need to consider when entering the country. Can I enter Turkey with my passport/ID card and stay there for 30 days? Do I have to apply for a Residence Permit in Turkey again maybe, because I will stay more than 90 days in Turkey in the period of 180 days?

      1. Hello,
As your residence permit will be already expired at the time you are planning to visit Turkey you should not enter the country earlier than three months upon expiration of your permit. Otherwise you can face the problem at the boarder or conditional entry may be granted. Conditional entry means that you will be obliged to apply for new residence permit within 10 days upon your arrival. If for any reason you would not be able to meet this condition you can be banned to reenter Turkey for up to five years.

    13. I only have a few few weeks left on my residency permit. I have been working. I didn’t realize that I need a work permit too. My question is whether or not I have time to get a work permit, allowing me to extend my time here, before my residency expires on 16 June.

      1. Hello,
If your residence permit has been valid in total for at least 6 months your employer must apply for work permit before expiration of your current permit. Application must be submitted until the last day of your residence permit’s validity. You are allowed to stay in Turkey legally during the evaluation process.

    14. Hello,
I have a friend and she came from USA. Her visa ended 4 months ago and that was a tourist visa. In this case how much she has to pay for overstay fee? Is it the same with the one on the page written residence permit fees on top?

      1. Hello,
The official fine for overstaying is double of the residence permit fee. For USA citizens it is 50 USD for first month of overstay and 10 USD for every remaining month. Please, be informed that final decision on the amount of fine will be taken by customs at the airport and it can differ from official amounts.

    16. Good afternoon,

I read your article about acquiring Turkish citizenship. I am writing to you because I have a question, I hope you can help me. I am Portuguese and my husband is Turkish and we got married in Portugal. We already delivered the papers to obtain my Turkish citizenship. When filling out the form to put the surnames in Turkish, the officer told me that I should enter only my husband’s surname. Then later I realized than I can add one of my maiden names. My question is can I still add one of my maiden names during the process ? I don’t even know if I can do it with the examination Comission later? Or how could I do? Thanks

      1. Hello,

If you have already submitted VAT form with only your husband’s surname it is not possible to add your maiden surname on this stage of application. After acquisition of Turkish citizenship you can change your surname by the decision of the court, however this kind of cases can take even more than one year to be evaluated. Mostly in situation like yours cases are evaluated positively though.

    18. Hi,

I graduated from Turkey and I have a short term permit that will expire in a couple of months. I’m thinking of enrolling in a part-time masters programme. Do you know if part-time graduate students are eligible for a student permit?

Additionally there is a high chance I’ll find an employer as well towards the end of the year. Assuming that I’m enrolled in a part-time masters programme, will my employer be able to apply for a work permit on my behalf while my masters in ongoing (i.e. I have a student permit)?

      Thank you

      1. Hello,
After you would be enrolled in a part-time Master programme within Turkey you are eligible for residence permit application on this basis, however you will need to obtain student visa first in order to apply for student residence permit. After you find an employer in Turkey you can obtain work permit as a Master degree student under condition that you were not receiving state scholarship during Bachelor’s degree in Turkey.

        1. Helo again and thank you for your time.

Just to confirm your answer to student permit question, I will have to enter the country with a student visa for the masters programme i.e. I’ll have to exit, get a student visa and re-enter the country, is that correct?

          Thanks once again

          1. Hello,
If you will be holder of other kind of residence permit at the time of enrollment in university you can directly transfer it to student residence permit without leaving Turkey.

    19. Hello. I am a French retired teacher and I have just obtained my touristic purpose permit card for 1 year with a rental contract in Istanbul . Will it be possible to get an extension for touristic purpose ? Thanks for your reply.

      1. Hello,
Currently there is no restrictions regarding extension of residence permit obtained for touristic purposes. You are allowed to apply for extension of the permit the earliest two months before its expiration. However, this rule can change before your residence permit expires so you should check if there are any updates in this topic before starting the renewal application.

    20. Hello, i want to purchase a property in turkey. I want to know how much is the minimum amount needed for property so i can get residence permit? I also want to know if my kids can do their studies on this rp?

      1. Hello,
There is no minimum value of the property to be eligible for residence permit. Property owner, their spouse and children under 18 years old can obtain residence permit on this basis. Once your children would be enrolled in university in Turkey they can obtain student residence permit, which can be extended as long as they would continue education within the country.

    21. Hello, I have had 5 work permits (I am currently on my 5th one). Between my first work permit and my second one I was on a short term touristic residence permit. The break period between my first and second work permits was 11 months. After this I have been on work permits for 4 years. I want to know if this break time when I was on a touristic residence permit makes me ineligible to apply for citizenship at this time. Would I be able to apply for citizenship now, or would I have to wait until I am on a work permit for another year?

      Thank you for the help!

      1. Hello,
Time you spent in Turkey on basis of work permit before you obtained touristic residence permit would not be taken under consideration while applying for Turkish citizenship. You must stay in Turkey for 5 years uninterruptedly only on basis of work permit to make application. According to your comment for last 4 years you have been work permit holder, if you would not switch it to residence permit you can submit Turkish citizenship application next year. Days of spend abroad during mentioned 5 years is also taken under consideration. You should not spend out of Turkey more than one year in total within 5 years and more than 6 months in a row.

    22. Hello Kurumsal,
My wife and I are Canadian citizens and we have been permanent residents of Turkey since 2006. I had a work permit until my employment terminated in 2018. I have not worked in Turkey since then and consider myself semi-retired. We wished to remain in Turkey as our children finished high school. Our daughter finished in 2019 and our son will finish in June of this year. We understand that the legislation regarding residence permits changed in January, 2020 and have been told that our residence permits will not be renewed again (expiring in Oct 2021) unless we purchase property in Turkey, which we are willing to do. We are now looking for property. We are considering Çanakkale however we have been told by some that the province is off limits for foreigners to own property due to military/security issues. Others have told us that this is not correct and that foreigners are able to purchase property in that province. A government web site that I checked seems to indicate that it is possible (https://www.yourkeyturkey.gov.tr/index).
I would appreciate your comments and would consider formally engaging your company if you think you could provide assistance.
      Thanks and regards,

      1. Hello,
New regulations valid from January 2020 regarding renewal of short term residence permit obtained for purpose of tourism are not applying to Canadian citizens. Currently you are eligible for extension of your residence permit every year for as long as you meet all the criteria. In case you consider purchasing property in Turkey for residential purposes or in case there would be any new regulations regarding residence permit for Canadian nationals you, your spouse and children under 18 years old can obtain residence permit on this basis. Your children above 18 years old can not benefit from your property ownership in regards to residence permit application. However, as you mentioned, foreigners are not allowed to buy property in Çanakkale, if you decide on buying a house in Turkey you should consider another province.

    23. Hi, I was wondering if my father wants to register his apartment in turkey to me, his daughter. What do we need to do and how can we do this?
We live in Sweden, is it possible to do all the papers from Sweden or do we need to go to turkey? And If so, can my father go by himself or do I need to go with him? And what kind of documents do we need.

Man thanks for help in these matter!

      1. Hello,
As a foreigner your father can only register the apartment by getting through the same procedures in Land Registry Office during Title Deed transfer as during property purchase. It means the valuation report of the property must be prepared before the transfer, your passport translation and biometric picture must be provided to Land Registry office along with required application form to obtain Title Deed in your name. Title Deed fee in amount of 4% of value of the property also must be paid to register the apartment in your name. If you would not be present in Turkey for Title Deed transfer process you must provide someone within the country with adequate Power of Attorney to get through required procedures on your behalf.

    24. Hi, I just read your blog about student work permits. In the blog it is said that after the first year of undergraduate degree, international students can apply for a work permit and work upto 30 hours a week.

What I am interested to know is whether international students who want to freelance or earn money via other online mediums need a work permit or not? Also, does the first year include the language preparation year, or does it mean the first year of the program in which they are admitted?

      Regards,

      1. Hello,
Currently work permit can be only granted to students of graduate programs under condition that they were not receiving state scholarship during Bachelor’s degree in Turkey. Students working as freelancers and receiving their income from abroad do not need to obtain work permit. Work permit must be only obtained if foreigner is employed by a company in Turkey.

          1. Hello, In order to reenter Turkey you must either obtain a visa or if you find a new employer who applies for new work permit through Turkish consulate in your country. Once the work permit application will be approved you can reenter Turkey on basis of work visa.

    25. Good Afternoon,

I am a British Citizen, residing in Turkey since 2012 with less than 180 days outside of the country since this time. Throughout my time living in Turkey I have had residency permits and work permits. I also have 2 children (18 months & 3 years old) both born in Turkey who have dual UK/Turkish nationality and both have the same father who is a Turkish national. I am not yet married to the father but we are living together and plan to marry this year. We live in Fethiye, Mugla.

I would like to know how to apply for citizenship. Are you able to offer this service?

I have been researching online and heard various reports as to the requirements. Perhaps they have changed over time. But I was under the understanding that providing you have resided continuously in Turkey for at least 5 years with less than 180 days outside the country, you are eligible to apply without being married or owning property or business. I hope this is correct.
I also have read that having Turkish born children works in your favour as well.

If this is something you can assist with I’d be most grateful. I’d also be interested to learn about the costs involved and documents and other requirements needed.

      Any advice would be appreciated.

      Thank you in advance

      1. Hello,
Foreigners, who are staying in Turkey uninterruptedly for five years on basis of work permit or residence permit for property owners can be eligible for Turkish Citizenship. If for last 5 years you were residing in Turkey as a work permit holder only you can submit the application. Otherwise, after being married to a Turkish citizen for three years and residing in Turkey with family residence permit you can also be eligible for Turkish citizenship on this basis. Short term residence permit obtained for purpose of tourism does not give foreigners a right to apply for Turkish citizenship.

    27. Greetings,

Thank you for taking the time to read my comment. My question is with regards to obtaining e-ikamet residence ID card for my family. I want to purchase an apartment under my name in Istanbul, Turkey and want to move my wife, and 4 children to Turkey. My question is 3 of my Daughters are above 18, 22, and 27 respectively. Would they be able to come to Turkey and obtain e-ikamet card. Because it says Ikamet card will only be given to Husband, Wife, and children under 18. Could you please shed some light on this and provide me accurate information so I can make an informed decision.

      Sincerely,
      Abdul Saeed

      1. Hello,
Only property owner, their spouse and children under 18 years old are eligible for residence permit on basis of property ownership. Your daughters above 18 years old can only obtain touristic residence permit in Turkey, however fact that you own a property will be a benefit during evaluation of their applications.
