In order to make an application, foreigners must have address in Turkey and health insurance obtained within the country, which is covering the whole requested period of stay. Moreover, foreigner must prove having financial resources to stay in Turkey (at least 500 USD per each month of requested stay). Funds can be proved by bank statements from foreigner’s bank account in their home country. Application procedures last up to 3 months, depending on the city and available appointment dates. Foreigners are allowed to stay in Turkey legally during the whole application procedures even if their visa expires before receiving the result. If their visa is still valid, foreigners are allowed to leave Turkey and come back during the procedures, however must be present in Immigration Office for the appointment.

If later you move to another city in Turkey you need to reapply for residence permit in particular city. Hello, Im from Jordan, I have a few questions:
1- I have a 1 year short term tourist residence permit, it finished in 01 jul, I applied to extending and sent the files and everything, after 2 month I called the immegrance office and they told me I have to go there to see the result, some friends told me that means they declined my application and want me to go there to sign leaving the country in 10 days, is that true?
2- I have been staying here for 1 year with my residence permit without interruption, if I leave turkey, can I reenter after 1 day? would I have the 90 days visa?
3- what if they make me sign to leave the country in 10 days, but I bought a property after, can I apply for the property owners residence permit or I still have to leave?

Being called to Immigration Office does not always mean that your application has been rejected, additional documents can be also requested in such a case. However starting from 01.01.2020 touristic residence permit can not be extended until purpose of stay is other than tourism so if you are not able to prove other circumstances for extension of your permit the application may be rejected as well.
As your previous residence permit has expired already and if the application would be rejected, time spent in Turkey after expiration of your permit is considered overstaying. Foreigners, who overstay in Turkey can reenter the country after staying abroad for at least three months under condition that they pay the fine if applies and are not banned to reenter the country for certain period of time.
Even if you purchase a property in Turkey you must leave and reenter the country with new visa to be eligible for residence permit application on basis of property ownership.

Thanks for the answer, but I read this the goc.gov.tr regarding the covid-19 situation:
a. The foreigners who violate the right to legal stay more than 3 months (includes 3 months) and come to the border gates by themselves in order to leave Turkey before their situation is detected by the competent authorities and make the payment for administrative fines due to Act of Fees numbered 492
The durations of prohibition of entry according to the duration of violation of the foreigners in this context are as follows:
Violation between 3 months – 6 months : Prohibition of entry for 1 month
Violation between 6 months – 1 year : Prohibition of entry for 3 months
Violation between 1 year – 2 years : Prohibition of entry for 1 year
Violation between 2 years – 3 years : Prohibition of entry for 2 years
Violation more than 3 years : Prohibition of entry for 5 years
Does that mean if I leave before 3 months I need to stay 3 months abord? cuz the 6 months violation only gets 1 month ban not even 3.

Can I stay in the country after my exemption in order to wait for the appointment date from the immigration? After your residence permit application has been submitted in the system you can stay in Turkey legally until receiving residence permit card even if your visa exemption period is over. Time to receive the appointment date changes from application to application and it can take even few weeks. After the appointment official evaluation time is 90 days, however in most cases card is issued within shorter period of time.

Currently touristic residence permit can be only obtained once within two years. After you leave Turkey you can be eligible for this kind of permit again only after you spend at least one year abroad. I plan to apply for a short term residence permit based on purchase of property. It will be my first time. I understand that I can apply for either a one year or a 2 year permit. Is it possible to apply and receive a 2 year permit directly as long as I can prove 2 years of health insurance coverage (as well as the other usual requirements)? This is Forough from Iran. My company (Renault- France) transferred Me and my family from China to Turkey at 2-Feb-2020 regarding to Covid 19. We supposed to stay in Turkey for a short time and then we can return back to China but opposite happened and we passed 90 days. We left Turkey after 4 months, 30 May as we could not find any flight to China and Iran.
In airport we went for paying penalty but regarding to Covid 19 they did not receive any amount.
Now, we want to return back to Turkey at the beginning of September with tourism visa. Could you please let me know if we can enter to Turkey after 3 months as we stayed there more than our visa validation or we should wait for passing 6 months?

If you stay abroad for at least 3 months you are allowed to reenter Turkey and use your 90 days visa free period. In order to stay within Turkey longer you must apply for residence permit after entering the country and before expiration of your visa. If you enter Turkey earlier than after 90 days you can face problem on the boarder and most probably you would be able to enter conditionally and would be obliged to apply for residence permit within 10 days upon your arrival. Foreigners, who enter Turkey conditionally and do not apply for residence permit within 10 days or leave the country before receiving residence permit card can be banned to reenter Turkey for up to five years.

I will give you my background in case it helps to better answer my questions. I am an American citizen and my fiance is a Chinese citizen. We have been separated almost half a year due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. We believe Turkey is the ideal place for us to go while we wait from the global “new normal”. We are basing this decision on cost of living, current open status for tourism, and especially that there is the possibility of gaining short term residency permits. I am allotted 90 days with my evisa but she would only get 30 days.

Procedures take the longest in Istanbul, where currently receiving residence permit lasts up to three months. Foreigners, who sobmit residence permit application within their visa time frames are allowed to stay in Turkey legally until receiving residence permit card even if their visa expires during the process. If you have never obtained touristic residence permit in Turkey before, you can be easily granted this kind of permit for up to one year. American citizens are also allowed to extend their permits, however Chinese nationals can obtain touristic residence permit only once within every two years. Cost of governmental fees is 80 USD + 110 TL card fee per person. Applicants must also purchase a health insurance covering the whole requested period of stay. Cost of health insurance depends on applicant’s age and type of policy. If you would like to benefit from our services oür fee is 1500 TL + VAT per person. This fee already includes the cost of one year health insurance policy.

We stayed in Turkey more than 90 days(120 days) as we could not find flight to return back to Iran regarding to covid 19. At airport they did not get any fine/penalty from us regarding to covid 19. As you overstay your visa you are allowed to reenter Turkey after staying abroad for at least three months. If you enter the country earlier, you can face a problem on the boarder and most probably you would enter Turkey conditionally and will be obliged to submit residence permit application within 10 days upon your arrival. Citizens of Iran are allowed to stay in Turkey for 90 days within each 180 days, which means that after you stay within the country for 90 days in a row, you must spend following 90 days abroad if you do not obtain residence permit.

Before you spend at least one year in Turkey on basis of work permit, you can not be sponsor for family residence permit application. After you work in Turkey for one year, your spouse and children under 18 years old can obtain family residence permit. As a first application your family members will be eligible only for touristic residence permit application.

I entered Turkey on 4th of February and, due to the fact that I am coming from an European Union country, my permission to stay here without any residence permit was 3 months (90 days).
However, because of the Coronavirus, I couldn’t leave Turkey and I had to stay here in May and June. The flights started to appear – they actually became active last week, so I can easily go back to my country.

How much should I pay per day and on a monthly basis for staying in Turkey?
Should I pay for the period in which I couldn’t go home because of the Coronavirus and because of a lack of flights (04.05.2020 – 15.06.2020)?
How much time am I allowed to stay in Turkey after the flights become active again?
I am currently living in Antalya. If I want to visit another city, am I allowed to do so? Will the police ban me from doing so or will I have to pay any fee/fine?

According to announcement of Directorate of Migration, foreigners who overstay their visa due to Covid-19 will not pay a fine under condition that they leave Turkey within 30 days after flights to their country are possible. We would not recommend travelling within Turkey if your visa is already expired as you can face a problem in case of police check.

If you stay in Turkey for five years uninterruptedly on basis of residence permit for property owners you can be eligible for Turkish citizenship application under condition that you can prove having a stable source of income and being covered by general health insurance in Turkey. Work permit is not compulsory for this kind of application, however it would be a benefit during evaluation process. Otherwise, if you obtain work permit and stay within Turkey on this basis also for five years, you can have a right to apply for Turkish citizenship.

I am a Uk citizen living in Turkey since 2005, I have long term residence permit.
Many years ago we paid for land (Tarla 3000m) and had a house built according to planning permission of the time which was %5, the house and land are on a Tapu and everything is totally legal. Due to the house/ land being in a village location and various changes in the Law over the years the Tapu is still in the builders name.
I know that foreigners currently have to make an agricultural project if they are buying farmland in order to build a house, BUT as the house is already built Is there any thing that would prevent us from getting the Tapu in our name.

If you are currently a holder of touristic residence permit, this kind of permit can be obtained only once and you are not eligible for extension or renewal of the document. As a holder of other kind of residence permit, you can be eligible for extension of the document after you reenter Turkey. If you will not be able to enter Turkey before expiration of your current permit, the renewal application must be submitted as a first time application instead of extension.

After entering Turkey, foreigners can apply for touristic residence permit before expiration of their visa. In order to make an application, foreigners must have address in Turkey and health insurance obtained within the country, which is covering the whole requested period of stay. Moreover, foreigner must prove having financial resources to stay in Turkey (at least 500 USD per each month of requested stay). Funds can be proved by bank statements from foreigner’s bank account in their home country. Application procedures last up to 3 months, depending on the city and available appointment dates. Foreigners are allowed to stay in Turkey legally during the whole application procedures even if their visa expires before receiving the result. If their visa is still valid, foreigners are allowed to leave Turkey and come back during the procedures, however must be present in Immigration Office for the appointment.

If later you move to another city in Turkey you need to reapply for residence permit in particular city. Otherwise, if you keep residing in Antalya but will travel within Turkey, you are also allowed to stay in another cities for this purpose.

Hello, Im from Jordan, I have a few questions:
1- I have a 1 year short term tourist residence permit, it finished in 01 jul, I applied to extending and sent the files and everything, after 2 month I called the immegrance office and they told me I have to go there to see the result, some friends told me that means they declined my application and want me to go there to sign leaving the country in 10 days, is that true?
2- I have been staying here for 1 year with my residence permit without interruption, if I leave turkey, can I reenter after 1 day? would I have the 90 days visa?
3- what if they make me sign to leave the country in 10 days, but I bought a property after, can I apply for the property owners residence permit or I still have to leave?

Being called to Immigration Office does not always mean that your application has been rejected, additional documents can be also requested in such a case. However starting from 01.01.2020 touristic residence permit can not be extended until purpose of stay is other than tourism so if you are not able to prove other circumstances for extension of your permit the application may be rejected as well.
As your previous residence permit has expired already and if the application would be rejected, time spent in Turkey after expiration of your permit is considered overstaying. Foreigners, who overstay in Turkey can reenter the country after staying abroad for at least three months under condition that they pay the fine if applies and are not banned to reenter the country for certain period of time.
Even if you purchase a property in Turkey you must leave and reenter the country with new visa to be eligible for residence permit application on basis of property ownership.

Thanks for the answer, but I read this the goc.gov.tr regarding the covid-19 situation:
a. The foreigners who violate the right to legal stay more than 3 months (includes 3 months) and come to the border gates by themselves in order to leave Turkey before their situation is detected by the competent authorities and make the payment for administrative fines due to Act of Fees numbered 492
The durations of prohibition of entry according to the duration of violation of the foreigners in this context are as follows:
Violation between 3 months – 6 months : Prohibition of entry for 1 month
Violation between 6 months – 1 year : Prohibition of entry for 3 months
Violation between 1 year – 2 years : Prohibition of entry for 1 year
Violation between 2 years – 3 years : Prohibition of entry for 2 years
Violation more than 3 years : Prohibition of entry for 5 years
Does that mean if I leave before 3 months I need to stay 3 months abord? cuz the 6 months violation only gets 1 month ban not even 3.

Can I stay in the country after my exemption in order to wait for the appointment date from the immigration? Time to receive the appointment date changes from application to application and it can take even few weeks. After the appointment official evaluation time is 90 days, however in most cases card is issued within shorter period of time.

Currently touristic residence permit can be only obtained once within two years. After you leave Turkey you can be eligible for this kind of permit again only after you spend at least one year abroad. Otherwise you can only apply for another type of permit such as for example residence permit for property owners, student or family residence permit.

I plan to apply for a short term residence permit based on purchase of property. It will be my first time. I understand that I can apply for either a one year or a 2 year permit. Is it possible to apply and receive a 2 year permit directly as long as I can prove 2 years of health insurance coverage (as well as the other usual requirements)? This is Forough from Iran. My company (Renault- France) transferred Me and my family from China to Turkey at 2-Feb-2020 regarding to Covid 19. We supposed to stay in Turkey for a short time and then we can return back to China but opposite happened and we passed 90 days. We left Turkey after 4 months, 30 May as we could not find any flight to China and Iran.
In airport we went for paying penalty but regarding to Covid 19 they did not receive any amount.
Now, we want to return back to Turkey at the beginning of September with tourism visa. Could you please let me know if we can enter to Turkey after 3 months as we stayed there more than our visa validation or we should wait for passing 6 months?

If you stay abroad for at least 3 months you are allowed to reenter Turkey and use your 90 days visa free period. In order to stay within Turkey longer you must apply for residence permit after entering the country and before expiration of your visa. If you enter Turkey earlier than after 90 days you can face problem on the boarder and most probably you would be able to enter conditionally and would be obliged to apply for residence permit within 10 days upon your arrival. Foreigners, who enter Turkey conditionally and do not apply for residence permit within 10 days or leave the country before receiving residence permit card can be banned to reenter Turkey for up to five years.

I will give you my background in case it helps to better answer my questions. I am an American citizen and my fiance is a Chinese citizen. We have been separated almost half a year due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. We believe Turkey is the ideal place for us to go while we wait from the global “new normal”. We are basing this decision on cost of living, current open status for tourism, and especially that there is the possibility of gaining short term residency permits. I am allotted 90 days with my evisa but she would only get 30 days.

Timeframe to obtain residence permit varies according to the city and available appointment dates. Procedures take the longest in Istanbul, where currently receiving residence permit lasts up to three months. Foreigners, who sobmit residence permit application within their visa time frames are allowed to stay in Turkey legally until receiving residence permit card even if their visa expires during the process. If you have never obtained touristic residence permit in Turkey before, you can be easily granted this kind of permit for up to one year. American citizens are also allowed to extend their permits, however Chinese nationals can obtain touristic residence permit only once within every two years. Cost of governmental fees is 80 USD + 110 TL card fee per person. Applicants must also purchase a health insurance covering the whole requested period of stay. Cost of health insurance depends on applicant’s age and type of policy. If you would like to benefit from our services oür fee is 1500 TL + VAT per person. This fee already includes the cost of one year health insurance policy.

We stayed in Turkey more than 90 days(120 days) as we could not find flight to return back to Iran regarding to covid 19. At airport they did not get any fine/penalty from us regarding to covid 19. As you overstay your visa you are allowed to reenter Turkey after staying abroad for at least three months. If you enter the country earlier, you can face a problem on the boarder and most probably you would enter Turkey conditionally and will be obliged to submit residence permit application within 10 days upon your arrival. Citizens of Iran are allowed to stay in Turkey for 90 days within each 180 days, which means that after you stay within the country for 90 days in a row, you must spend following 90 days abroad if you do not obtain residence permit.

Before you spend at least one year in Turkey on basis of work permit, you can not be sponsor for family residence permit application. After you work in Turkey for one year, your spouse and children under 18 years old can obtain family residence permit. As a first application your family members will be eligible only for touristic residence permit application.

Hello, I am Alexandra and I am from Romania which is in the European Union. I would like to tell you something regarding my stay and leave in Turkey.
I entered Turkey on 4th of February and, due to the fact that I am coming from an European Union country, my permission to stay here without any residence permit was 3 months (90 days).
However, because of the Coronavirus, I couldn’t leave Turkey and I had to stay here in May and June. The flights started to appear – they actually became active last week, so I can easily go back to my country.

How much should I pay per day and on a monthly basis for staying in Turkey?
Should I pay for the period in which I couldn’t go home because of the Coronavirus and because of a lack of flights (04.05.2020 – 15.06.2020)?
How much time am I allowed to stay in Turkey after the flights become active again?
I am currently living in Antalya. If I want to visit another city, am I allowed to do so? Will the police ban me from doing so or will I have to pay any fee/fine?

According to announcement of Directorate of Migration, foreigners who overstay their visa due to Covid-19 will not pay a fine under condition that they leave Turkey within 30 days after flights to their country are possible. We would not recommend travelling within Turkey if your visa is already expired as you can face a problem in case of police check.

As a residence permit holder and property owner in Turkey, only property tax and eventual tax on rental income applies to you within Turkey. If you establish a company in Turkey or obtain work permit, you would be also a subject for income tax. Otherwise you do not need to pay taxes in Turkey on your income from abroad.

If you stay in Turkey for five years uninterruptedly on basis of residence permit for property owners you can be eligible for Turkish citizenship application under condition that you can prove having a stable source of income and being covered by general health insurance in Turkey. Work permit is not compulsory for this kind of application, however it would be a benefit during evaluation process. Otherwise, if you obtain work permit and stay within Turkey on this basis also for five years, you can have a right to apply for Turkish citizenship.

I am a Uk citizen living in Turkey since 2005, I have long term residence permit.
Many years ago we paid for land (Tarla 3000m) and had a house built according to planning permission of the time which was %5, the house and land are on a Tapu and everything is totally legal. Due to the house/ land being in a village location and various changes in the Law over the years the Tapu is still in the builders name.
I know that foreigners currently have to make an agricultural project if they are buying farmland in order to build a house, BUT as the house is already built Is there any thing that would prevent us from getting the Tapu in our name.

If you are currently a holder of touristic residence permit, this kind of permit can be obtained only once and you are not eligible for extension or renewal of the document. As a holder of other kind of residence permit, you can be eligible for extension of the document after you reenter Turkey. If you will not be able to enter Turkey before expiration of your current permit, the renewal application must be submitted as a first time application instead of extension.

Rental contract should include both of your names to be used for residence permit application purposes. Our service fee for residence permit application is 1500 TL + VAT per person. This fee already includes compulsory health insurance. Governmental fees for citizens of India are 80 USD residence permit fee + 110 TL card fee.
